Did You Know?

Arkansas originally had almost 10 million acres of wetlands, representing almost 30% of the total surface area of the state. By the mid-1980's, the number of wetlands had dropped to 2.8 million acres, a 72% loss, with wetlands representing only 8% of the state's surface area. Arkansas has lost more wetlands acres than any other inland state in the nation.

As a life long Virginia Beach resident, I've always appreciated the close proximity to the wetlands. Nothing quite like a scenic drive on 64 through the welands on a nice Autumn Day. What an asset to the region and to the state of Virginia!

I live in Vermont and much of our state is surrounded with wetlands. These areas bring about abundant wildlife and a biological "Heaven". Protecting all wetlands in the great USA is extremely important.
